On June 19, 1865, news of emancipation reached Black Americans in Galveston, Texas. It had been two and a half years since slavery was legally abolished.
Today, we observe Juneteenth by honoring Black resilience and freedom. As mortgage professionals, we know that freedom includes the right to safe and fair housing, an avenue to generational wealth that too many people have been excluded from for too long.
Thank you to the generations who've advocated, spoke up, and continue to work toward the self-evident truth we claim to hold dear: all humans are created equal.
